Job summary

Jobtailor in Milwaukee seeks an experienced Class 8 Tractor Mechanic to diagnose, inspect, and repair heavy trucks and trailers. You will perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections, service tires, axles, and lift-gates, and manage field work orders via mobile devices.

You should have 3+ years of repair experience, a valid license, and be comfortable with computer-based billing and reporting. Ergonomics and safety are essential in daily duties.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience repairing Commercial Class 8 Semi-Tractors with occasional trailer work.
Experience performing annual federal inspections and brake inspections.
Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record; Chauffers License preferred.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate a computer for billing and work orders.
Follows instructions and communicates diagnoses clearly over the phone.
Certifications such as EPA 608/609/Universal and ASE are a plus.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, inspect, and repair Class 6-8 tractors and related systems.
Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections to meet safety standards.
Service and replace tires, hubs, axles, and lift-gates as needed.
Write and manage work orders via company devices for field and yard work.
Inspect tractors/trailers to ensure DOT road-safety compliance.
Source parts and manage service truck inventory with local vendors.
Document inspection reports and DOT paperwork accurately and timely.
Deliver strong customer service and clearly report findings to management.

Job description

• Diagnose, inspect, and repair Class 6-8 tractors with minimal trailer work, including brakes, electrical, hydraulic, A/C, engine, exhaust, systems, components and after-treatment systems
• Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections
• Service and replace tires, hubs, axles, and lift-gates
• Write work orders and open/close repair orders on a company device for mobile road calls and in-yard work
• Inspect tractors and trailers to meet U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements
• Manage service truck inventory and source parts from local vendors
• Complete inspection reports and DOT documentation accurately and on time
• Deliver strong customer service and report findings to management

Requirements

3+ years of experience repairing Commercial Class 8 Semi-Tractors with occasional trailer work
Experienced in performing annual federal inspections and brake inspections
Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record & no suspensions
Needs to have or be able to obtain a valid Chauffers license
Ability to lift 50+ pounds
Comfortable working with Computers for billing and work orders
Follows verbal and written work orders to stay on track with daily repairs
Confident explaining a diagnosis over the phone and helping the customer decide next steps on repairs
Self-motivated with excellent organization and planning skills
Experience with stick welding preferred as a standout qualification
Your own tools preferred as a standout qualification
Certifications are a plus: EPA 608/609/Universal & ASE
