Job summary

Jobtailor in Wisconsin is seeking an experienced diesel mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain Class 6-8 tractors and related systems on a mobile and in-yard basis. You will manage service orders, communicate findings to customers, and ensure DOT compliance and safety standards.

The role requires in-person work, customer service, and the ability to lift heavy parts. Qualifications include 3+ years of Class 8 repair experience, valid CDL/Chauffeurs license, ASE/EPA certifications, and

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience repairing Commercial Class 8 semi-tractors with occasional trailer work.
• Experienced in performing annual federal inspections and brake inspections.
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record & no suspensions
• Needs to have or be able to obtain a valid Chauffers license
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds
• Comfortable working with Computers for billing and work orders
• Follows verbal and written work orders to stay on track with daily repairs
• Confident explaining a diagnosis over the phone and helping the customer decide next steps on repairs
• Self-motivated with excellent organization and planning skills
• Experience with stick welding is a plus
• Your own tools are a plus
• Certifications are a plus: EPA 608/609/Universal & ASE

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, inspect, and repair Class 6-8 tractors with minimal trailer work, including brakes, electrical, hydraulic, A/C, engine, exhaust, systems, components and after-treatment systems
• Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections
• Service and replace parts such as tires, hubs, axles, and lift-gates
• Write work orders and open/close repair orders on a company device for mobile road calls and in-yard work
• Inspect tractors and trailers to meet U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements
• Manage service truck inventory and source parts from local vendors
• Complete inspection reports and DOT documentation accurately and on time
• Deliver strong customer service and report findings to management
