Job summary

Jobtailor in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced diesel technician to perform repairs and inspections on Class 6-8 trucks and trailers. You will oversee preventive maintenance, manage parts and service orders, and provide on-site maintenance at customer locations.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and physical endurance to work outdoors in various weather. A valid CDL is a plus, and certifications in diesel repair are welcomed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of diesel and trailer repair experience.
• Strong communication skills.

• Ability to use a computer/tablet for electronic work orders and updates.
• 2 years of experience in annual federal inspections and brake inspections.

• Must possess proper tools.
• High School education or equivalent.
• Certifications in Diesel Repair a plus.
• Welding experience a plus.
• CDL a plus.
• Ability to perform physical requirements; outdoors in extreme weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and inspections on Class 6-8 trucks and trailers, including brakes, diagnostics, A/C, electrical systems, engines, exhaust, after-treatment, lift-gates, and tires.
• Schedule and oversee all maintenance procedures, including preventive maintenance and DOT inspections.
• Repair or replace vehicle and trailer components.
• Open and close repair orders on a company-issued device.
• Obtain parts from local vendors and manage inventory on the service truck.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
• Provide on-site truck and trailer maintenance and repairs at customer locations.

Job description

• Schedule and oversee all maintenance procedures, including preventive maintenance and DOT inspections
• Repair or replace vehicle and trailer components

Requirements

• Ability to utilize a computer/tablet for electronic processing of work orders, including adding labor hours and updating work order statuses
• 2 years of experience in performing annual federal inspections and brake inspections
• 2 years of experience in truck/trailer maintenance and repair or equivalent combination of experience and education
• Basic computer skills
• Must possess proper tools

• Certifications are a plus

• Ability to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
