Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in Carrboro, NC seeks a Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher to support English language development for students whose first language is not English. The MLL teacher will develop lessons, assess progress, communicate with families, and participate in curriculum development and professional growth activities.

Qualifications

• Holds or is eligible to hold a NC teaching license; ESL licensure area.
• Certification in additional core content licensure areas preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small group instruction.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
• Maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons and projects.
• Employs diverse instructional techniques and media; evaluates student growth and maintains records.
• Communicates with parents to discuss progress and interprets the school program.
• Cooperates with staff to assess and help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Participates in curriculum development programs and faculty committees.

Education

Bachelor's Degree

NC teaching license or eligibility

ESL licensure
