Job summary

Muon Space in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Staff Mission Lead Systems Engineer to guide end-to-end mission development from concept through on-orbit operations. You will partner with the Mission Architecture team and serve as the primary technical interface with customers and cross-functional leads.

This role requires high-rigor development for USG/DoD/IC and commercial customers, with on-site three days a week and a focus on architecture trades, requirements baselines, and risk reduction.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in engineering with 10+ years in complex system design and mission architecture.
• Experience as technical lead on complex designs for USG/DoD/IC or commercial customers.
• Experience with space programs and USG/IC acquisition standards.
• Strong understanding of contracts and artifacts for government programs.
• Experience supporting proposal development (RFI/RFP) for government contracts.
• Extensive modeling, analysis, and simulations; proven system integration delivery.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Mission Architecture to develop concepts, run trade studies, and shape baselines.
• Maintain mission-level models: architecture, interfaces, requirements, behavior.
• Lead design, verification, and flight readiness reviews across disciplines.
• Translate objectives into verifiable technical requirements for the mission.
• Interface with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders on technical matters.
• Manage requirements traceability and validation across the program lifecycle.
• Define CONOPS and manage subsystem budgets (power, data, mass, pointing).
• Guide risk reduction and coordinate design changes across teams.
