Job summary

The North Dakota Safety Council (NDSC) seeks a Mine Safety & Training Specialist to deliver safety, health, risk management, and mine safety training to employers and employees across North Dakota and neighboring areas.

Responsible for leading MSHA Part 46/48 New Miner and Annual Refresher Training, plus providing workplace safety consulting, hazard assessments, inspections, and regulatory compliance support. Strong communication and travel capabilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Mining, Education, Business, or a related field preferred.
• At least two years of experience in safety training, workforce development, or safety management.
• Mining, MSHA compliance, or occupational safety experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MSHA Part 46/48 and OSHA regulations preferred.
• Strong communication, presentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple training projects.
• Valid North Dakota driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and travel throughout North Dakota and surrounding states, including overnight travel.
• Ability to work flexible schedules based on customer and mine operator training needs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver MSHA and workplace safety training through classroom, hands-on, virtual, and field-based instruction.
• Conduct mine and workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and safety evaluations.
• Assist employers with OSHA/MSHA compliance and workplace safety programs.
• Develop and update mine safety curriculum, presentations, training materials, and practical exercises.
• Coordinate training schedules, equipment, facilities, logistics, and required documentation.
• Maintain required instructor certifications and stay current on mining regulations, safety trends, and industry best practices.
• Build relationships with mining operations, contractors, regulatory agencies, and industry partners.
• Represent NDSC at conferences, safety meetings, trade shows, and other industry events.
