Job summary

Lhoist North America is seeking a geology/mining professional to support underground mining operations at Crab Orchard. The role involves surveying, QC data collection, horizon control, and ground support monitoring, with responsibilities in block modeling, blasting patterns, and mine planning.

You will collaborate with the mine supervisor and corporate geologist, participate in Mine Rescue, and ensure safety standards while developing short- and long-term plans; travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in geology, mining, or related engineering/technical degree or equivalent proven work experience in the field.
• 1–3 years of progressive technical responsibility in underground mining; internship experience desired.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% to support operations.

Responsibilities

• Survey and track quality control data to define ore zone contacts in pits.
• Design, survey and record blast pattern layouts; maintain AutoCAD records.
• Prepare weekly mine surveys and install alignment pins.
• Update mine maps weekly.
• Develop short- and long-term mine plans and budgets.
• Coordinate with geologist and regional mine engineer on reserve life and mine plans.
• Assist in ensuring plan aligns with geology and health & safety standards.
• Maintain ground support meetings and record roof monitoring data.
• Support ventilation surveys and maps as required.
