Job summary
The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) seeks a Military & Special Populations Admissions Counselor to support military-connected and international students from inquiry through enrollment. You will act as a liaison, ensure SEVIS compliance, and work with the Admissions team on targeted recruitment strategies.
This role emphasizes serving diverse student populations, coordinating with DoD policies, and maintaining accurate compliance records while promoting a welcoming, inclusive campus
Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3+ years of related experience.
- Former military service preferred.
- Knowledge of Banner Software systems is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison between USC Beaufort and military-affiliated students and families.
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 visa program; manage SEVIS records.
- Develop and monitor enrollment strategies to increase military and special populations recruitment and retention.
- Support international students with immigration, tax, and regulatory guidance.
- Coordinate with Admissions to ensure compliance with DoD education policies.

The University of South Carolina Beaufort, a dynamic and growing institution located in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry, invites applications for a Military & Special Populations Admissions Counselor. The Military & Special Populations Admissions Counselor plays a critical role in advancing USCB’s enrollment goals by providing comprehensive, student-centered support to military-affiliated students, dependents, international students, and other special populations. This position serves as a key liaison between the university and military communities while ensuring full compliance with federal and Department of Defense regulations.
- Serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for military-affiliated students, dependents, international students, and designated special populations.
- Act as a Designated School Official ( DSO ), ensuring compliance with federal immigration regulations and maintaining accurate SEVIS records.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment to design and implement targeted strategies to increase enrollment and retention of special population students.
- Represent USCB at military education fairs, community events, and recruitment activities, both locally and regionally.
- Provide personalized admissions counseling, guiding students through the application, enrollment, and transition process.
- Assist with data tracking, reporting, and strategic planning to support enrollment initiatives and institutional goals.
- Partner with campus departments to ensure a seamless, supportive student experience from inquiry to enrollment and beyond.

- Knowledge of or ability to learn federal compliance regulations, including SEVIS and Department of Defense education policies.

Knowledge of or background in military Education Office policies, procedures and services; General knowledge of Student Support Service functions and activities at the undergraduate level in a University/College setting; General knowledge of Enrollment Management functions and activities at the undergraduate level in a University/College setting; Knowledge of recruitment and marketing skills in support of the University which conform to standards set forth in the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding; Ability to implement programs and activities that will benefit the military student community at the University; Ability to develop and monitor departmental budgets along with excellent computer skills within the Microsoft Product line; Excellent computer skills within the Microsoft environment.
- Serve as the liaison between USC Beaufort and the military-affiliated students and families. Serve on the Military Education Officer’s Advisory Council and address issues regarding Military Education Programs and how they interact with USCB policies and procedures. Prepare grade reports for military students who use Tuition Assistance and submit results (every 8-week/16-week session); prepare information for and execute the Third Party Assessment Review for Educational Institutions offering postsecondary education to the military community (5-year Review cycle). Evaluate Joint Service Transcripts for military students.
- Support prospective and current military-connected students throughout the enrollment lifecycle from inquiry through enrollment.
- Assist USCB VA certifying officials in ensuring compliance with federal and Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations related to Tuition Assistance (TA) and Veteran Education Benefits.
- Serve as the University of South Carolina Beaufort Recruiter as assigned by the Assistant Director of Admissions for Recruitment, including, but not limited to, serving as the admissions representative for special populations in Beaufort County and the surrounding area. Represents USC Beaufort at a variety of events on and off campus.
- Functions as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) for the F-1 visa program. Utilizes the DHS Student and Exchange Visitor Information System ( SEVIS ) and applies complex federal regulations along with academic policies and procedures. Monitors and updates SEVIS data as needed and supports general SEVIS registration responsibilities twice per academic year. Guides prospective and current international students regarding immigration, employment, tax requirements, and other governmental regulations. Provides international support to the campus and the surrounding community.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, Saturday tour rotations, as well as visitation days, tours, etc.
