Job summary

Machinify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to own client migrations end-to-end, from discovery to go-live. You’ll transform legacy ETL and SQL procedures into scalable Airflow/Spark pipelines on the Machinify platform, coordinating across Operations, Client Success, Product, and Platform Engineering.

You’ll drive architectural decisions, implement reconciliation frameworks, and mentor engineers, all while delivering high-trust outcomes for health plan clients nationwide.

Qualifications

• 8+ years as a hands-on Data Engineer or Software Engineer owning complex multi-stakeholder projects.
• Strong Python and SQL — fluent with legacy code, not just greenfield work.
• Apache Spark — distributed processing, tuning, and debugging at scale.
• Apache Airflow — production DAG architectures from scratch.
• AI-assisted development — comfortable using coding agents for code generation and debugging.
• Legacy ETL stack — reconstruct intent from code to modern stack.
• Data validation & reconciliation at scale — automated frameworks with high fidelity.
• AWS — proficient with S3 and cloud-native data patterns.
• Cross-functional coordination — align engineering, operations, and clients.
• Clear technical communication — discovery specs, architecture docs, stakeholder updates.
• Data-first mindset & fidelity — ensuring migrated data matches sources.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery & technical due diligence to capture legacy business logic.
• Reverse-engineer complex legacy systems to build modern equivalents.
• Drive ambiguity to resolution by surfacing questions and obtaining answers.
• Architect & build migration pipelines with end-to-end ownership.
• Make hard architectural calls and document the reasoning trail.
• Prove correctness at scale with automated reconciliation frameworks.
• Own the migration program end-to-end from kickoff through go-live and hypercare.
• Codify runbooks and retrospectives to scale migration knowledge.
