Job summary

Grosse Pointe Public School System seeks a licensed special education teacher to plan and deliver specialized instruction for students with IEPs and serve as their case manager to monitor compliance.

Responsibilities include determining instructional needs from assessments, facilitating IEP meetings, collaborating with general education staff, documenting progress and maintaining communications with families.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in at least one area of special education.
• Experience in working with students with disabilities.
• Experience in supporting core content and providing accommodations.
• Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
• Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability and achievement assessments.
• Skills and abilities to develop and promote positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to cooperatively participate in Child Study Teams, evaluations, and IEPs.
• Knowledge of all areas of eligibility and ability to work effectively with students in all areas of eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Determine instructional needs of students based on assessment data and district curriculum; provide direct and/or supplemental instruction to students.
• Support functional behavior assessments, development of behavior intervention plans, and implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports.
• Use technology to enhance instruction and increase student independence.
• Apply accommodations and modifications as they relate to the general education curriculum.
• Develop and facilitate timely IEP meetings and maintain documentation of student progress.
• Communicate regularly with students and parents and maintain service logs.
• Develop and provide academic instruction, behavioral supports, remediation, and guided practice using instructional objectives and lessons.
• Create and maintain a schedule of service and manage working in multiple buildings.
• Collaborate with general education staff to promote IEP goals and curriculum alignment.
• Model professional and ethical standards with all stakeholders.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with parents, staff, and community services agencies.
• Maintain effective written and oral communication with parents, staff, and professionals.
• Participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and planning committees.
