Job description

Technology Service Corporation (TSC) is seeking a Mid-Level Thermal Engineer to support work at the Naval Research Laboratory. This position offers the opportunity to directly impact high-priority Navy missions.

We are seeking an experienced Thermal/Aerothermal Engineer to support the design, analysis, and evaluation of advanced aerospace systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in thermal and aerothermal modeling, with hands‑on experience developing, validating, and optimizing thermal solutions for aircraft, weapons systems, and/or spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop analytical thermal models for aerospace systems, including transient and steady‑state analyses.
  • Perform detailed thermal and aerothermal analyses using industry‑standard tools.
  • Validate analytical models through test data, simulations, and comparative methods.
  • Support design teams by providing thermal performance predictions and recommending design improvements.
  • Apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods to analyze aerothermal loads, heating environments, and system performance.
  • Prepare technical documentation, analysis reports, and presentation materials.
  • Ensure all work adheres to government procurement practices, regulations, and program requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in thermal and aerothermal design and analysis for aerospace applications.
  • Proficiency with thermal analysis software packages including TRASYS, SINDA/Fluint, and Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with FORTRAN and Python for scripting, automation, or model development.
  • Working knowledge of STARCCM+, HEEDS, and Cart3D.
  • Strong understanding of thermal modeling techniques, heat transfer principles, and system‑level integration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using CFD for aerothermal prediction and system‑level analysis.
  • Background in passive and active twophase heat transfer systems.
  • Familiarity with thermal protection systems for reentry applications.
  • Experience supporting government programs, including knowledge of procurement regulations and compliance requirements.

In compliance with applicable pay transparency laws, the expected salary range for this position is $113,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience and location. This role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus and may include equity or incentive compensation as part of the total rewards package.
