Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV to 765kV) under a licensed PE. You will create design packages, perform calculations, and support client communications through design and construction phases.

The ideal candidate holds an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree, has FE/EIT or PE, and at least 3 years in electrical engineering (consulting preferred).

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• FE exam completed or EIT/PE preferred.
• 3 years electrical engineering experience; consulting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation design packages: arrangement, protection, and control schematics.
• Prepare calculations: insulation, grounding, voltage drop, cable sizing.
• Support field inspections and QA/QC during design/construction.
• Assist in client presentations and proposal development.
• Coordinate with project team to meet schedules and client needs.
