Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for high-voltage substations from 13kV to 765kV. You will guide projects from concept through construction, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to meet budget, schedule, and client requirements.

Responsibilities include developing design packages, performing electrical studies, supervising QA/QC, and interfacing with clients. PE license is preferred; ABET-accredited degree and FE exam are required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field; FE exam completed; 7+ years of substation project experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and general software tools.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork abilities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Develop substation design packages (arrangement, relaying, protection, grounding, etc.).
• Perform electrical studies (grounding, voltage drop, cable sizing).
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs and specifications.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and client satisfaction.
• Lead field inspections and project scheduling/budget management.
