Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in the United States seeks a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) and support the project team through design and construction.

You will prepare design packages, perform calculations, and ensure QA/QC, while collaborating with clients and participating in proposals. This role requires ABET-accredited degree and relevant substation experience.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree required with 3 years substation experience.
• Or ABET-accredited degree with FE exam and 3 years substation experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation design packages including physical arrangement, protection, relaying, and control.
• Perform substation calculations (insulation, DC systems, grounding, cable sizing).
• Support field inspections for substation facilities.
• Prepare proposals, cost estimates, equipment specs and BOMs.
• Apply IEEE, NESC and industry standards; QA/QC adherence.
