Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) across Raleigh, Richmond, and Baltimore areas. The role requires directing design packages, coordinating with teams, and ensuring QA/QC compliance throughout design and construction phases.

The candidate should have a PE license preferred, ABET-accredited degree, and 7 years’ substation experience, with strong communication and leadership skills for client interfaces

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 7 years of substation project experience, consulting preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Develop substation design packages and calculations (grounding, insulation, etc.).
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE/NESC standards and QA/QC guidelines.
• Coordinate with clients and project team to meet deadlines and budgets.
