Job summary

UW Medicine's Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician 1 for the Microbiology Team at UW Medical Center – Montlake in Seattle. The CLT 1 will accession and process specimens, answer calls, manage orders in LIS/EHR, and support daily lab operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or 1 year of lab experience (or ASCP-approved course). This is a 100% FTE, one-year appointment with a day shift from Sunday to Thursday.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience, or completion of an ASCP-approved Laboratory Assistant course.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications where allowed by law.
• Working knowledge of lab operations and safety practices is expected.

Responsibilities

• Accession test requests and track specimens in the Laboratory Information System.
• Process bacterial and fungal cultures and prepare direct smears (Gram, KOH, Trichromes, malaria preps).
• Operate lab equipment and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Answer phone inquiries and coordinate with healthcare providers.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and proper waste disposal.
