Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Technical Supervisor for Laboratory Services in Microbiology (Days) to provide leadership over pre-analytical and specimen processing areas. The role ensures specimen integrity, guides staff, and coordinates workflows for efficient operations.

The candidate will oversee daily lab activities, ensure quality management, and maintain regulatory compliance while supporting continuous process improvement and education for staff and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science with four years related experience
• Must fulfill overall qualifications as a General Supervisor under CLIA
• Experience in clinical microbiology lab performing high complexity testing is preferred

Responsibilities

• Recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation and disciplinary actions for divisional staff
• Supervise daily operations and quality management for the division
• Oversee staff performing routine and specialized procedures; plan work and address issues
• Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures to meet standards
• Coordinate review and revision of the Laboratory Test Directory
• Ensure appropriate staffing for efficient operation
• Review lab data accuracy and report results with proper documentation
• Work independently within guidelines; solve problems and meet deadlines
• Develop and implement new procedures, reagents, systems, and instruments
• Prepare financial reports with division leadership
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
• Ensure staff continue education and document it for records
• Communicate with staff, management, medical directors, and other divisions
• Instruct and train students
• Be available to cover different shifts to guarantee patient care
• Maintain compliance with regulatory accreditation standards
• Adhere to internal controls and safety protocols
