Job summary

General Atomics in San Diego, CA, seeks a CNC Machinist to operate micro CNC equipment in the Inertial Fusion Technology division. The role handles small-scale, high-precision parts with millimeter features and tight tolerances.

You will perform setup, NC programming (G-code and Creo CAD/CAM), inspections with micrometers and optical profilers, and data recording. The job requires safety compliance, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work extended hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or technical/trade training or equivalent.
• Proficiency with manual shop equipment: lathes, mills, saws.
• Experience setting up and operating NC mills and lathes.
• Experience with NC programming (G-code and CAD/CAM).
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, height gages and inspection tools.
• Knowledge of computer operations relevant to the field.
• Safety-conscious with ability to work in a lab with hazardous materials.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoE Q Level security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate micro CNC shop equipment such as lathes, mills, and saws.
• Follow safety procedures in a lab environment handling beryllium components.
• NC programming in G-code and CAD/CAM (Creo).
• Inspect parts with micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators and gage blocks.
• Inspect parts with CT and white light profilers when required.
• Record machining data and final inspection results in the designated templates and archive remotely.
• Comply with all laws and company procedures; work safely and responsibly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
