Job summary

Arch Vista in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Mental Health Technician for the night shift (7p–7a, 3x12s) with every other weekend rotation. You will provide a calm, structured milieu and perform safety checks while monitoring patients and assisting with daily living activities to support recovery.

This full-time role emphasizes de‑escalation, accurate documentation, and collaboration with nursing staff to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment for adults receiving detox and inpatient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; STNA/EMT experience preferred.
• 21+ years old; ability to stand/walk long periods and assist with lifts.
• Empathy, consistency, and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular patient safety checks every 15 minutes or as ordered.
• Maintain continuous observation of patients at risk.
• Monitor changes in behavior and report to the nurse.
• Document observations in the medical record.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment via safety inspections.
• Respond to behavioral crises using de-escalation techniques.
• Assist nursing staff during emergencies, admissions, and discharges.
• Escort patients for appointments or activities.
• Obtain vital signs and other clinical measurements as assigned.
• Manage after-hours admissions and handoff to the day team.

How You Will Make a Difference

• Perform regular patient safety checks (such as every 15 minutes or as ordered).
• Maintain continuous observation of patients on suicide, self-harm, elopement, or behavioral precautions.
• Monitor patients for changes in behavior, mood, or medical condition and immediately report concerns to the nurse.
• Document patient observations, behaviors, and overnight events accurately in the medical record.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and mobility as needed.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment by conducting room and unit safety inspections.
• Respond appropriately to behavioral crises using approved verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
• Assist nursing staff during emergencies, patient interventions, admissions, and discharges.
• Escort patients within the facility for medical appointments, assessments, or unit activities when necessary.
• Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, or other clinical measurements as assigned.
• Manage after‑hours admissions and urgent needs; prepare a thorough handoff to the day team.
