Job summary

BlueRidge Vista is seeking a Mental Health Technician for night shift to provide a calm, therapeutic presence on the unit. The role includes safety rounds, 1:1 observations, and collaborative care with RNs in a behavioral health setting.

You will support admissions, lead groups, monitor patient safety, and ensure smooth overnight handoffs, contributing to a structured milieu that promotes healing and continuity of care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 21+ years old with ability to stand/walk for long periods.
• Empathy, consistency, and clear communication are essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform frequent safety rounds, observations, and 1:1s; document behaviors and interventions.
• Lead or assist with groups: coping skills, grounding, recreation, and ADLs support.
• Partner with RNs during crises using de-escalation and team protocols.
• Support admissions/intakes: belongings inventory, vitals, and orientation to the unit.
• Maintain a therapeutic, tidy environment and uphold visitor policies.
• Ensure continuity of care overnight with vigilant observation and timely documentation.
• Manage after-hours admissions and urgent needs; thorough handoff to the day team.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma/GED required; some college or STNA/EMT experience preferred.
• Age 21+; ability to stand/walk for long periods and assist with lifts/transfers as needed.
• Empathy, consistency, and clear communication.
