Job summary

Arch Vista in St. Louis, MO is seeking a compassionate Mental Health Technician (MHT) to provide a calm, therapeutic presence and assist with safety rounds, observations, and 1:1 support.

This PRN role requires flexible shifts with a minimum commitment of 3 shifts per month; you will lead small groups, assist with admissions, support RNs during crises, and help maintain a tidy, therapeutic unit while building rapport with patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some college or STNA/EMT experience preferred.
• Age 21+, ability to stand/walk for long periods and assist with lifts/transfers.
• Empathy, consistency, and clear communication are essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform frequent safety rounds, observations, and 1:1s; document behaviors and interventions.
• Lead or assist with groups: coping skills, grounding, recreation, and ADLs support.
• Partner with RNs during crises using de‑escalation, redirection, and team response protocols.
• Support admissions/intakes: belongings inventory, vitals, and orientation to the unit.
• Maintain a therapeutic, tidy environment and uphold visitor policies.
• Float between units/shifts to cover needs; learn new routines quickly.
• Build rapport fast with patients and teams while maintaining consistency of care.
