Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Meter Technician to perform disconnect/reconnect work on single and three-phase meters up to 260 volts, plus related AMI equipment. You will read meters, investigate irregular readings, and assist with meter inventory, including testing and programming meters.

The role includes responding to service calls, inventory control, and potential storm restoration support. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid state driver’s license, and willingness

Qualifications

Requires HS diploma or GED.
Acceptable written and verbal communication skills.
Basic understanding of electricity.
Must be available by telephone or pager/cell phone.
Must have safe work habits and follow safety rules.
Willing to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

Disconnect and reconnect electrical service by installing meters or detection equipment up to 260 volts.
Remove, install, or change meters when defective or abnormal. Bypass equipment when needed.
Respond to service calls and rotations for meter work within 260 volts.
Inspect and test meters, maintain inventory and resolve discrepancies.
Read billing and non-billing meters as assigned.
Operate data entry and work management systems; assist in storm restoration.
