Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking a Software Engineer Internship on the Metadata Enablement Team in Des Moines, IA. This Hybrid internship provides hands‑on experience building prototypes, automation tools and lightweight data integrations this summer.

You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and data professionals, gain exposure to data governance, and contribute to improving data discovery and customer‑facing data products.

Qualifications

• Current junior, senior or master's student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, Data Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop automation solutions and tooling to improve metadata collection, enrichment and management.
• Support design and enhancement of data product publishing workflows to streamline delivery.
• Build reporting and monitoring capabilities to measure metadata quality and adoption.
• Create prototypes and lightweight integrations between data platforms and metadata services.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams and business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities.
