Job summary

BY Recruiting seeks a Superintendent / Senior Superintendent to oversee all day-to-day field operations on data center projects. You will lead field teams, coordinate subcontractor performance, and partner with Project Managers, General Superintendents, and clients to deliver high-quality outcomes.

The role requires strong leadership, proactive planning, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence in fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and/or equivalent experience relevant to project size and scope.
  • 4+ years of experience in data center construction.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with Project Managers and field teams.

Job description

The Superintendent / Senior Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role provides leadership to field teams, coordinates subcontractor performance, and partners closely with Project Managers, General Superintendents, and clients to deliver successful construction outcomes. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, and is committed to operational excellence and safety.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Field Operations

  • Oversee, manage, and document all day-to-day job site operations, ensuring compliance with project plans, schedules, and quality standards
  • Direct field personnel and subcontractors in alignment with project objectives and company supervisory principles
  • Communicate daily updates regarding progress, performance, risks, and issues to the Project Manager
  • Proactively identify and elevate project concerns to facilitate timely, cost-effective resolutions
  • Establish strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and General Superintendents on materials, sequencing, staffing, and scheduling strategies

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Support project startup and mobilization activities, including pre-construction planning and turnover meetings
  • Assist in developing and implementing baseline construction schedules based on project contracts and subcontractor input
  • Maintain and update project schedules, ensuring work remains aligned with milestones and client expectations
  • Provide progress updates and two-week look-ahead schedules to project leadership and field teams
  • Identify schedule risks and implement proactive solutions to maintain project momentum

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, site-specific safety plans, and company safety standards
  • Lead and facilitate subcontractor safety pre-construction meetings before work begins
  • Monitor daily site activities to ensure safe work practices and compliance with governing requirements
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain required reporting in accordance with company safety programs
  • Review safety performance data and implement corrective actions where necessary
  • Promote a proactive, safety-first culture across all project teams

Quality Management

  • Establish project benchmarks and integrate quality milestones into the project schedule
  • Ensure inspections, benchmark reviews, and first-delivery checks are completed, documented, and communicated effectively
  • Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure work meets contract requirements and company standards
  • Maintain project documentation and coordinate with field teams to ensure quality objectives are achieved

Subcontractor & Site Management

  • Manage site pre-construction activities, including job site logistics, staging, utilization planning, and mobilization
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring work meets quality, ethical, and schedule expectations
  • Coordinate field office operations and maintain the job site according to company standards
  • Document and report project progress, excavations, and job site activities
  • Partner with Project Managers to address personnel challenges and construction process improvements

Meeting & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Attend and lead project meetings, including turnover, mobilization, safety, coordination, scheduling, subcontractor, and owner meetings
  • Facilitate communication between field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership to ensure alignment and accountability
  • Maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle

Administrative Management & Closeout

  • Complete daily reports, maintain project logs, and ensure accurate documentation of site activities, shop drawings, and revisions
  • Manage material deliveries and maintain quality standards for all incoming materials
  • Ensure required project files, safety documentation, and as-built drawings are maintained accurately
  • Lead project closeout activities, including subcontractor completion, utility transfers, owner training, work lists, and punch lists

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and/or equivalent experience relevant to project size and scope
  • 4+ years of experience in data center construction
  • Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with Project Managers and field teams
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and implement new processes effectively
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to manage subcontractor performance while balancing budget, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Sound judgment with the ability to elevate issues appropriately when necessary

Physical Requirements
