Job summary

STRM Recruiting is seeking a Superintendent – Data Center Construction to lead mission-critical data center projects in Kansas City. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of data center construction experience and a proven track record of managing field operations, subcontractors, schedules, safety, and quality from start through completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Data Center construction experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret Construction drawings, Specifications, Building codes.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and understanding trade scopes of work.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Superintendent – Data Center Construction

Ideal Background

This opportunity is well-suited for experienced Superintendents who have successfully led mission-critical data center construction projects and have a strong track record of managing field operations, subcontractors, schedules, safety, and quality from project start through completion. Experience delivering large healthcare or hospital facilities is an added advantage.

Position Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees field operations, including scheduling, production, procurement of materials and equipment, supervision of craft labor, and coordination of subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Review project plans and specifications to develop construction procedures, staffing plans, and sequencing.
  • Partner with the Project Manager to develop the master schedule and maintain short-term "look-ahead" schedules.
  • Coordinate pre-construction meetings prior to project mobilization.
  • Plan and direct the procurement and delivery of tools, equipment, and materials to support project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust schedules, staffing, and resources as needed.

Field Leadership

  • Supervise all field personnel and direct labor on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors throughout each phase of construction.
  • Ensure subcontractors understand project scope, schedule, sequencing, and quality expectations before mobilization.
  • Assign work, manage crew composition, and coordinate labor resources with the Manager of Craft Resources.
  • Address workforce concerns and assist in resolving complaints or grievances.
  • Participate in hiring decisions and performance management, including disciplinary actions when necessary.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain regular communication with:
    • Project Managers
    • Clients and owners
    • Design and engineering teams
    • Inspectors
    • Field supervisors
    • Craft personnel
    • Subcontractors
  • Conduct routine project meetings to review progress, identify risks, and develop solutions.
  • Keep all stakeholders informed of schedule changes, project milestones, and field issues.

Quality & Safety

  • Inspect work in progress to ensure compliance with:
    • Project specifications
    • Building codes
    • Company quality standards
    • Construction schedules
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across the project site.

Project Management

  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing and executing the Project Management Plan.
  • Monitor labor productivity, material usage, project costs, and overall field performance.
  • Identify construction challenges and collaborate with engineering, suppliers, and project leadership to develop effective solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Data Center construction experience
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing

  • Experience delivering hospital or healthcare construction projects valued at $10M+
