Job summary

DBM Vircon is seeking a MEP BIM Designer to support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design and model coordination on diverse projects. You will create and manage BIM models in Revit, coordinate across disciplines, and participate in coordination meetings to ensure seamless project integration.

The role requires proficiency in Revit and MEP design, with experience in federated BIM models and CDEs. Expect collaborative, dynamic projects and opportunities to contribute to workflow improvements

Position Overview:

The MEP BIM Designer will be a vital part of our team, supporting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design and model coordination for diverse construction and infrastructure projects. This role involves creating and managing BIM models, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and participating in model coordination meetings to ensure seamless project integration.

The position requires proficiency in MEP design across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic/plumbing systems and expertise in tools like Revit. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to innovative projects within a dynamic and growing team.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Create and manage accurate 2D and 3D MEP BIM models using Revit.
  • Support the design of mechanical (HVAC, piping), electrical (HV/LV power and lighting), and plumbing/hydraulic systems, including schematic development.
  • Coordinate BIM models across multiple disciplines within a federated environment.
  • Lead model coordination meetings, identify and resolve design clashes (e.g., using Navisworks or equivalent tools).
  • Communicate effectively with engineering and design teams to meet project timelines.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements, including potential use of automation or scripting tools.

Required qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) to perform essential functions of this position:
  • Proficient in Revit.
  • Experience in MEP design (mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic). Work with instrumentation valued
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems — mechanical (HVAC, ductwork, piping), electrical (HV/LV, primary/secondary schematics), and plumbing/hydraulic services.
  • Experience working with or contributing to federated BIM models and using common data environments (CDEs).
  • Confident leading and contributing to model coordination meetings.
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Work Experience:
  • Familiarity with modelling in Revit.
  • BIM execution planning.
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing/hydraulic technologies at a commercial and/or industrial level.
Education/Training:
  • Diploma or equivalent in construction related field preferred.
  • Certifications in CAD/BIM software and BIM processes (preferred but not essential).
Specialized Knowledge - Certificates & Licenses:
  • As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position.
Software & Technology:
  • Experience using Navisworks or similar coordination tools.
  • Exposure to or interest in scripting/automation (e.g., Python, Dynamo, VBA).
  • High level skills in basic office tools including MS Office applications, document management tools, issue tracking systems.
  • This is a global position and is generally office based with an expectation of frequent remote communications with our global team members.
