Job description

DBM Vircon, a premier construction modeling, detailing and digital engineering company, delivers high-profile projects with state-of-the-art technology, uncompromising detail and millimeter precision. At DBM Vircon we see the future through a very different lens. With over five decades of experience in the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors, DBM Vircon is recognized as one of the industry-leading design/detailing and digital engineering companies. Drawing upon over 900 team members, with experience in over 6 continents, we regularly challenge the status quo by delivering high-end solutions and integrated delivery methods on some of the industry’s largest projects. Innovation, eminence, and digital are at the heart of everything we do.

Position Overview:

The Digital Project Manager (DPM) manages the delivery of digital engineering (DE) / BIM services on assigned projects and contributes to the continuous improvement of DBM Vircon’s digital engineering processes. Commitment, discipline, communication skills, trustful relationship-building, innovation and a solution-focused drive are integral to the role, alongside the requisite technical skills.

A client-facing role built on trust, collaboration and credible stakeholder relationships. The DPM works within multidisciplinary teams and is expected to lead small- to medium-sized projects independently.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Understand the engagement type, scope, milestones and deliverables across the full project lifecycle, from setup to closure.
  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of the project, or specific tasks within it, to industry and DBM Vircon standards.
  • Build and maintain professional, trustful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and manage project tasks with other team members to ensure the high-quality delivery of a project.
  • Coordinate with client, consultants, sub-contractors and delivery teams across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead, contribute to and oversee the creation, structure and management of the project’s federated model.
  • Create and develop project-specific DE / BIM plans using ISO-aligned terminology (e.g. BIM Execution Plan, Digital Engineering Management Plan), aligned with the latest industry standards and best practices.
  • Set up and administer the Common Data Environment (CDE) and information-management workflows to ISO 19650.
  • Run clash detection and coordination, host coordination meetings, and drive resolution.
  • Review and quality-check information models and digital content against project requirements.
  • Work with project teams to develop and optimise digital workflows, processes and applications.
  • Identify opportunities where better processes or platform technologies would benefit the project delivery, client and DBM Vircon.
  • Contribute to R&D working groups.

Business support

  • Maintain client relationships and communicate identified opportunities within existing relationships and project delivery.
  • Identify and communicate project related risks to the project and team leads.
  • Contribute to identifying new business opportunities within the industry and communicating them to the leadership team.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position description is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of all job responsibilities and functions that a person in this position may be asked to perform. Above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced or delegated by management to meet the business needs of the company.

Required qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) to perform essential functions of this position:

  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Transparency and professionalism in communication
  • Time management, planning & organization, and personal initiative.
  • Problem solving.
  • Collaboration & teamwork, commitment, integrity & trust, and customer/client focus.
  • Sound working knowledge of digital engineering / BIM processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Previous digital engineering experience (DE, BIM, modelling/drafting).
  • Client-facing confidence — able to build trust with clients (without necessarily owning the relationship).

Core

  • Resilience and the ability to adapt and thrive in fast-paced work environments.
  • Discipline, innovation/creativity and commercial awareness.
  • Construction / built-environment knowledge across the project lifecycle.
  • Competent, hands-on federated model creation and management.
  • Working proficiency across the Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma/ACC), Navisworks, Revit and Revizto stack.
  • Solid knowledge of information management principles and ISO 19650.
  • Ability to lead small-to-medium projects independently.
  • Mentoring and developing others.
  • Clash detection depth, Open BIM workflows & interoperability, automation, model review/QA-QC.
  • Awareness of relational databases / data management and the asset lifecycle (information transfer into asset/facility management) — required as awareness, not as a hands-on responsibility.
  • Cross-cultural awareness, knowledge sharing, continuous-improvement mindset, critical thinking, interpersonal savvy.
  • Construction-site experience; defense-clearance eligibility; permanent residency / American citizenship.
  • We are looking for a team player who is genuinely curious and eager to learn, and who keeps developing their skills as the work and technology evolve. They communicate clearly and openly with colleagues, clients and contractors alike, and listen as well as they speak. They bring a humble approach, are comfortable asking and questioning, ask the right questions, understand the collective effort and shares and communicates credit, comfortable to be transparent about what they know and they don’t, they treat people with respect and genuinely care about their team, their clients and the quality of the work they deliver.

Work Experience:

  • Preferred: 5+ years professional experience in the AEC, energy, mining or industrial sectors.
  • Not a strict deal-breaker. A strong candidate with ~3 years may be considered — particularly an internal coordinator already conditioned to DBM Vircon’s ways of working. External candidates would typically be expected to bring 5+ years.
  • For reference across the ladder: DPM 5+ years Senior DPM 7+ Service Lead 10+ with relevant sector experience.

Education/Training:

  • Tertiary qualification related to the construction industry (architecture, engineering, construction management or similar). Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

Software & Technology:

What matters is the capability, not the specific tool: information management, model federation, clash detection, CDE administration, and drawing/document management. The tools below are indicative examples of where these capabilities are applied — not a mandatory checklist (unless hiring for a specific task).

Essential: MS Office; document-management, coordination, issue-tracking tools (Proficient)

Low priority: ArchiCAD, Tekla, Microstation, Maximo, QGIS/ArcGIS, iConstruct, Unreal Engine (Not used for screening)

Proficiency scale — Aware (can follow the process), Proficient (competent, hands-on), Expert (independent, sets standards).

This is a global position and is generally office based with an expectation of frequent remote communications with our global team members. Working longer days including evenings and weekends may be required for this position. Traveling for business may be required from time to time.
