Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Mental Health Technician, you will perform basic patient care services related to behavioral health under the supervision of the nurse (RN). Your responsibilities include maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, crisis intervention, and assisting with activities of daily living.

Delegated tasks include:

• Obtaining vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, calorie counts.
• Establishing rapport with patients.
• Monitoring and ensuring patient safety, escorting patients, and restraining if needed.
• Performing bedside glucose testing and sample collection.
• Assisting the RN with patient data collection during admission and discharge.
• Modeling positive socialization skills.
• Coordinating and participating in group activities and encouraging patient interaction.

Requirements include:

• Preferred Certified Behavioral Health Technician or PCT training within 6 months.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) through the American Heart Association; CPI training required for Behavioral Health.
• Lifting up to 100 lbs, with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.

Additional qualifications:

• BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training within 30 days.
• Fingerprinting required.
