Job summary

The Rescue Mission of Roanoke is seeking Shelter Guest Services team members to support guests of the emergency shelter. You will assist with intake, ensure safety, coordinate basic services, and promote a compassionate environment in Jesus' name.

The role requires strong listening and communication, willingness to work evenings and weekends, and adherence to our Code of Ethics. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Gmail helps daily admin tasks.

• Experience working with individuals living with mental health and substance use disorder (helpful).
• Strong listening, as well as written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Shelter Services will supervise emergency shelter guests by enforcing Shelter policies and check-in/out processes.
• Monitor security protocols and perform rounds, room checks and promote teamwork among guests and volunteers.
• Complete records/documents, incident reports, and basic administrative tasks.
• Assist with laundry, housekeeping, and supply maintenance as scheduled.

They serve individuals who seek emergency shelter by providing intentional services related to a safe, secure and comfortable nights rest. These services include chapel services, overnight laundry, the opportunity to take a shower and shelter while sleeping.

Reports to: Men's Shelter Manager

Hours of Availability: (please confirm the hours you are available with the hiring team) Full Time 2:30pm- 11:30pm; Full Time 11:00pm - 8:00am; Part Time - 7:30a - 4:30p Saturday & Sunday plus 1 weekday evening. Schedules may vary depending on assigned shift and days.

Location: 402 4th Street, SE Roanoke, VA 24013

Compensation: $19.00/hour (non-exempt/hourly)

Patient and compassionate presence. Previous experience with conflict resolution techniques, helpful. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gmail, basic grammar. Career Summary (may Include Other Duties As Assigned): Shelter Services will supervise emergency shelter guests by enforcing Shelter policies, check-in/out process, monitor security protocols and making rounds, room checks and promoting a team environment for guests, volunteers, and team members. Administrative duties to include completion of records/documents, inspections, incident reports, medication distribution, phone calls, supply maintenance. Conflict resolution/deescalating potentially volatile situations and reporting to appropriate persons as needed. Report needs/concerns to manager. Assist volunteers/interns to include training and assistance. Laundry operations as scheduled Housekeeping duties to ensure infection control processes are in place for health, safety and security measures. All Rescue Mission of Roanoke team members may be asked to complete other duties as assigned by the leadership/management. Expectation is to complete these assignments as requested. Physical demands essential to performing the job duties of this position (not an all-inclusive list). Prolonged computer use; computer screen exposure. Consistently - Communicating with others to exchange information; verbally and/or electronically. Noise levels may vary depending on activity/event and/or location. Frequent periods of moving around to accomplish a task; sitting and standing. Occasional periods of standing, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling objects. Lift up to 50 pounds; not typically repetitive. Temperatures may vary depending on activity/events; indoor/outdoor exposure. Occasional– exposure to general cleaning chemicals.
