SEIU Local 500 is seeking a Member Strength Organizer (MSO) in Gaithersburg, MD to build worker leadership and organize campaigns. The MSO will recruit and train leaders, conduct meetings, and advance the union’s political and workplace goals through strategic organizing.

Required is experience in labor organizing and strong written and verbal communication. The role requires long hours, travel in the region, and a valid driver's license, with competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
• Excellent listening skills and ability to understand concerns of others.
• Strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to create and execute a work plan.
• Basic familiarity with database entry; proficient in Microsoft Office and Google tools.
• Spanish language ability is strongly preferred.

Responsabilités

• Build one-on-one relationships with workers.
• Recruitment for Membership and COPE programs.
• Identify, recruit, mobilize, train, and develop worksite leaders.
• Conduct individual and group organizing meetings to advance campaigns.
• Establish effective organizing committees and motivate action.
• Engage workers in broader union efforts and mobilization.
• Coordinate data collection and maintain campaign records in databases.
• Perform site and home visits as needed to organize workers.
• Understand contractual and labor rights relevant to SEIU Local 500 members.
• Communicate political and contractual information clearly.
• Involve community allies in campaigns and organizing efforts.
• Be flexible with time; long hours, including some nights and weekends.
• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license and vehicle for business use.
