SEIU Local 521 is seeking an Internal Organizer to recruit and develop leaders, build worksite campaigns, and support contract campaigns across multiple jurisdictions. You will create communication systems, assist in negotiations, and help ensure timely compliance with union bylaws.

The role requires travel, long hours, and a strong commitment to social and economic justice, with opportunities to lead residual organizing and serve as a spokesperson.

Formación

• Willingness to travel frequently within the local jurisdiction.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
• Strong written and verbal communication and planning skills.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
• Commitment to social and economic justice and organizing the unorganized.

Responsabilidades

• Identify, recruit, train, develop stewards, officers, and leaders.
• Lead and assist in developing worksite campaigns on issues including budgets, contracts, safety.
• Create communication systems; write/edit leaflets and newsletters.
• Negotiate or assist in contract negotiations from proposals to strike prep.
• Monitor stewards and officers in representational duties and grievances.
• Meet timelines and procedures related to contracts and bylaws.
• Encourage participation in political and lobbying activities.
• Lead residual organizing campaigns and recruit members.
• Lead staff or community committees; act as a spokesperson.
