Performs patient testing and administrative tasks supporting clinical activities in the UNCHCS laboratory, including Microbiology Processing, STAT Area, Bacteriology, and Special Microbiology sections (Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Sendouts).

Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday 10:00am - 8:30pm, rotating holidays

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Specimen processing and Gram stains
2. Rapid antigen testing (Cdiff, Strep, Legionella, Trichomonas, Mono, Crypto)
3. Rapid molecular/PCR testing (RSV, Flu, Cdiff, COVID)
4. Total Lab Automation (BD Kiestra), plate reading, organism ID
5. Susceptibility testing (automated and KB)
6. Quality control of instruments, reagents, media
7. Investigate equipment, test results, specimens, workflow issues
8. Teaching and training of students and new employees; serve as a technical resource
9. Report results to healthcare providers and consult regarding test results; review for accuracy and timeliness

Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Science degree; must meet eligibility to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.

Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
