Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks supporting clinical activities in the UNCHCS. The Core Laboratory includes Chemistry, Toxicology, Blood Gas Analysis, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Automated and Manual Hematology, Smear Review, Body Fluid Analysis, and Specimen Processing. Standard schedule is 11:30 pm-8:00 am, Monday-Friday, with 1 in 4 weekends and rotating holidays. Alternative schedules are available.

Responsibilities

• Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
• Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
• May teach Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and train new employees. Serves as a technical resource.
• Performs quality control and equipment maintenance.
• Performs routine and specialized tests, observes test reactions, and provides data.
• Prepares specimens, reagents, solutions, and filters as required.
• Reports results to healthcare providers and confers regarding test results.
• Reviews test results for accuracy and timely correction of errors.

Minimum Education Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree. Must meet eligibility to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.

Licensure/Certification

• Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
