Job summary

The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division is seeking a Medical Team Leader in Detroit to oversee a medical unit, ensuring high standards of patient care and coordinating healthcare services. The role combines clinical leadership with administrative duties to support detoxification and related programs.

Ideal candidates will have an RN or LPN license with at least 2 years of medical experience, plus supervisory experience and familiarity with substance abuse or mental health populations.

Qualifications

• 2 years of medical experience as a licensed RN or PN.
• Experience with substance abuse or mental health populations preferred.
• Previous supervisory/managerial experience overseeing a team of healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Manage inquiries regarding information, referral, and/or admission.
• Conduct pre-admission screenings for detoxification services.
• Schedule admissions/discharges and complete medical documents.
• Review detoxification protocol applications.
• Verify that medical charts are closed properly.
• Provide coverage for call-offs and no-shows.
• Conduct ADIA admissions/discharge for detoxification clients.
• Create monthly medical staff schedule.
• Schedule monthly team meetings with the Physician’s Assistant and/or Medical Director.
• Train staff on new procedures and day-to-day changes.
• Prepare orders and inventory of medical supplies with staff.
• Act per Harbor Light protocol to ensure medical stability.
• Assist Medical Director and Medical staff in service provision.
• Maintain daily medical records and logs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position: Medical Team Leader

Reports To: Medical Director

Position Summary

A Medical Team Leader is responsible for overseeing a medical team, ensuring high standards of patient care, and coordinating various healthcare services. The role requires a combination of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and administrative capabilities.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manage all inquiries with regards to information, referral, and/or possible admission
• Conduct pre-admission screenings of potential clients for detoxification services
• Schedule detoxification admissions/discharges to detoxification and residential programs, including completion of all required medical documents
• Review all detoxification protocol applications
• Verification that medical charts have been closed properly
• Provide coverage for call-off’s and no-show’s
• Conduct ADIA admissions/discharge for detoxification clients
• Create monthly medical staff schedule
• Schedule monthly team meeting with the Physician’s Assistant and/or Medical Director
• Conduct staff training for new medical employees and notify current employees of any changes in day-to-day procedures
• Prepare order and inventory of medical supplies with assistance of medical staff
• Take appropriate action as directed by Medical Director to ensure clients medical stability and in cases emergency facilitate assistance per Harbor Light protocol
• Assist Medical Director, Physician’s Assistant, and/or designate in the provision of medical services
• Ensure all records, charts, logs and all other pertinent data for medical unit are maintained on a daily basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

• 2 years of medical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse
• Experience with substance abuse or mental health populations preferred
• Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role, overseeing a team of healthcare professionals.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to both the medical team and patients.
• Experience in resolving conflicts and addressing issues within the team or with patients.
• Strong commitment to patient advocacy and ensuring a patient-centered approach in all aspects of care.
• Must possess a working knowledge of HIPAA
• Possess a working knowledge of OSHA standards and Universal precautions

Computer Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and e-mail
• Experience using Electronic Medical Records systems strongly preferred

Certificates and Licenses

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
• TB test and police clearance
• Valid Michigan Chauffeur License and approved by The Salvation Army MVR
