Job summary

TalentBurst is seeking a Med Surg/Telemetry Registered Nurse for an on-site 13-week contract in Albemarle, NC. The role requires 18 months of Med/Surg RN experience, 12-hour day shifts, and a region-wide float within the Stanly/Central region.

The position includes travel-like stipends and a competitive compensation package. You will work in a facility with an Advanced Primary Stroke Center and a 36-bed unit, supporting telemetry monitoring and post-operative care.

Qualifications

• General Med/Surg/Telemetry RN duties and competencies.
• Proven ability to manage post-op care and telemetry monitoring.
• Experience with strokes, COPD, CHF and post-surgical care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Care for Med/Surg/Telemetry patients with stroke/CHF/ COPD diagnoses.
• Read Tele strips and respond to changes within scope of practice.
• Assist with IV starts, drains, wound care and PCA administration.

• Radius rule: Traveler s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses

• General Med/Surg patients – Stroke, CHF, COPD, Respiratory Illnesses, Diabetes, Post-Surgical, Behavioral Health, etc.

Patient Ratios

• RN: 1:5-6, acuity dependent - (surge staffing could increase ratios up to 1:7-8)
• LPN (if applicable): 1:5
• CNA: 1:10

Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.)

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

Skills required

• Post-op care, Orthopedic experience, TPN, PPN
• General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience/NIH assessments, Chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps, wound care
• Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips (Diltiazem), Heparin, blood products, IVF

Support within the Department

• CNA? Duties? Yes – all duties within scope
• Receptionist/HUC? Only on dayshift
• Charge nurse – may or may not be in staffing
• Phlebotomy
• IV/VAT Team, only on dayshift
• Resource Nurse – as staffing allows
• RT, 24/7
• Hospitalist, 24/7
• Intensivist, 24/7
• Telemetry monitoring/tech – available for this unit but RN will have to read own Tele strips when floated to other units

Floating

• Within Stanly - Med/Tele, ICU, PCU (if open), ED
• Within region and scope of practice
• Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
• Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main Mercy LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities in region if the need arises
• If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)

Orientation (facility and unit)

• NEO
• 2 days departmental (we complete 3 days orientation at Stanly)

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other
• No call for Travelers
• Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
• Shift times: 0700-1900 and 1900-0700
• Schedule cycle: every 4 weeks
