Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist to determine donor eligibility and support plasma center operations in a fast-paced environment.

You will monitor donor safety, review lab results, and respond to medical events under supervision of the Center Manager and Center Physician. A clinical background and state licensure are required, with emphasis on patient safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must hold active licensure/certification in the state of responsibility: EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P, LPN/LVN or RN.
• CPR and AED certification current.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Complete BioLife FDA-approved training for Medical Support Specialist.
• At least two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility including informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance criteria, physical exam, blood testing, SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reactions per SOPs and manage emergencies including physician standing orders and donor transport to care facilities.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or guidance on medical/technical issues including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine need for occupational health/ER evaluation; follow EHS guidance.
• Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist investigations related to pandemic threats.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B)

Emergency Medical Technician - Advanced (EMT-A)

Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate (EMT-I)

Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P)

Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN)

Registered Nurse (RN)

CPR and AED certification

Basic IV therapy (state requirements)

FDA required BioLife Medical Support Specialist training
