Job summary

Tidelands Health is seeking a Medical Physicist Assistant to support clinical practice under a Qualified Medical Physicist. You will perform QC tests on imaging and therapeutic devices and conduct patient-specific dosimetric measurements.

Responsibilities include developing data analysis tools, assisting with radiation safety compliance, and communicating policies and training materials to leadership and staff. Bachelor’s degree is required; Master's enrollment is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy, radiology, nuclear medicine, or health physics required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports and collaborate with physicians and staff.
  • Currently enrolled in a Medical Physics master’s degree program preferred.

More than 2,500 team members at more than 70 Tidelands Health locations bring our healing mission to life each day.A Brief OverviewThe Medical Physicist Assistant is a specialized healthcare professional who works under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) to support the clinical practice or medical physics.What you will doPerform periodic quality control (QC) testing of imaging and therapeutic devices to ensure radiation dose and image quality are appropriate for clinical use.Perform patient-specific dosimetric measurements, including IMRT quality assurance, radioactive source assays, and related measurements under the direction of the Qualified Medical Physicist.Develop, maintain, and monitor data analysis and statistical tracking tools that evaluate system accuracy, performance, and quality trends.Support radiation safety compliance by assisting the Radiation Safety Office with required documentation, regulatory files, audits, and State, Federal, and NRC-related submissions.Prepare, revise, publish, and communicate radiation safety policies, procedures, agendas, meeting minutes, correspondence, notices, and action-item tracking materials.Coordinate radiation safety education and training materials, including required e-Learning modules, in collaboration with leadership, the RSO, RPS, and education department.Manage system-wide radiation safety intake, including telephone calls, email activity, inquiries, requests, triage, troubleshooting, and communication with appropriate responsible parties.Participate in quality review activities, variance review huddles, and discussions with Medical Physicists regarding chart review, reconciliation processes, policy interpretation, regulatory guidelines, and decision-making processes.Maintain working knowledge of current and emerging radiation oncology technology and train with other department roles, including dosimetry, to broaden understanding of the Radiation Oncology Program.Serve as liaison with the contract physics partner, coordinate security protocols related to Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements, and gather vendor quotes for proposal review.Education QualificationsBachelor's Degree in radiation therapy, radiology, nuclear medicine, or health physics (including biophysics) RequiredCurrently enrolled in a Medical Physics master's degree Program PreferredSkills and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of radiation physics principles and applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines established by AAPM, NRC, ACR, and ASTRO to support compliance, quality assurance, and patient safety.Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical and clinical information, prepare reports and documentation, and collaborate with physicians, staff, leadership, and patients.Licenses and CertificationsBasic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days RequiredPhysical DemandLight-Medium Physical DemandThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative and level of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a contract for employment nor a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
