Job summary

Tidelands Health is seeking a Dosimetrist Assistant to support the treatment planning process. You will import CT simulation scans, generate contours, and assist in the post-processing of approved treatment plans under supervision, ensuring data accuracy and timely delivery.

This role requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology, with collaboration among the Dosimetrist, Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, and Radiation Therapist to

Qualifications

  • Certification as Radiation Therapist or degree in radiologic technology required.
  • Current student or applicant to a medical dosimetry program required.
  • South Carolina licensure or related safety certifications applicable to position

Responsibilities

  • Imports CT scans into the treatment planning software.
  • Obtains previous treatment records from outside departments and uploads them into planning software.
  • Develops basic external beam treatment plans under supervision.
  • Treatment chart preparation and printing PDFs of approved treatment plans.
  • Performs image fusion with CT, MRI and PET under supervision.

A Brief Overview

The Dosimetrist Assistant will do the pre-work and post-work around the treatment planning process. Importing CT Simulation scans, generating normal tissue contours and post processing of approved treatment plans. This person will utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology. The Dosimetrist Assistant will communicate with the Dosimetrist during the treatment planning process and participate in communicating the plan to the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, and the Radiation Therapist for implementation.

What you will do
  • Imports CT scans into the treatment planning software. Generates normal tissue contours to be reviewed by Certified Medical Dosimetrist and the Radiation Oncologist prior to the Treatment Planning Process
  • Obtain previous Treatment Records from Outside Departments and uploads them into the departments planning software.
  • Develops basic external beam treatment plans, under supervision of Certified Medical Dosimetrists or physicists.
  • Treatment chart preparation & printing PDF of approved treatment plans. Transfers data electronically to record and verify systems and treatment Linear Accelerators.
  • Perform image fusions with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET under supervision of Certified Medical Dosimetrists or physicists.
Education Qualifications
  • Certificate as a Radiation Therapist Required or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology Required or
  • Current Student, Accepted or interested in applying to a Medical Dosimetry Program Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
  • Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices, and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data.
  • Knowledge with computers and software such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge with clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information, and communication systems.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities.
  • Demonstrate high level critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Radiation Therapist - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (If applicable to education) Required
  • Radiography - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
