Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is seeking a qualified Patient Services/ Billing Specialist to support front desk operations and medical billing processes.

Responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, posting payments, and maintaining accurate demographic data. The role requires familiarity with CPT/ICD-10 coding and a commitment to excellent customer service in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate; one-year Technical College or certification preferred.
• Three years of experience in a physician’s office with medical billing may substitute for formal training.

Responsibilities

• a. Answers phones, routes calls and/or takes accurate messages with urgency for patient distress.
• b. Manages scheduling of patient appointments and registers new patients; maintains demographics and insurance data.
• c. Identifies barriers to communications.
• d. Verifies insurance eligibility, scans insurance card and photo ID.
• e. Checks patients in/out and uses ICD-10 and CPT codes accurately.
• f. Posts payments according to policy; reconciles financial data end of day and month.
• g. Reconciles all financial data correctly per clinic policy.
• h. Forwards requests for Medical Records to Release of Information.
• i. Works with patient and clinic manager on accounts and assists with financial tasks as delegated.
• j. Recognizes fraud and abuse considerations in daily duties.
• k. Performs other duties as assigned within COA scope.
• l. Promotes positive staff interaction.
• m. Edits claims, reviews charges, and educates staff on errors.
• n. Ensures timely scanning of documents.
