Job summary

Bryan Health in Lincoln, Nebraska, seeks an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform high complexity laboratory tests and analyses as part of the on-the-job clinical experience for the MLT or MLS career ladder. Under CLIA guidelines, you will work with a General Supervisor to ensure accuracy and timely results.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of clinical laboratory equipment/instrumentation and test procedures.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply such concepts to practical situations.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to solve practical problems and engage critical thinking in variable situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory testing according to laboratory standards, policies and procedures in a timely thorough manner.
• Assists with development and validation processes for MLT I competencies.
• Analyzes test results and enters data into the computer using laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains competency on all laboratory instrumentation and performs preventive maintenance.
• Communicates with coworkers, clients and leadership while maintaining confidentiality.
• Performs general housekeeping to maintain a safe work environment and ensures adequate supplies.
• Assists in training new employees, students and other staff.
• Works collaboratively with all laboratory staff to ensure completion of testing.
• Uses quality improvement processes and LEAN initiatives to improve department operations.
• Performs service excellence to achieve an excellent patient/customer experience.
• Basic knowledge in phlebotomy and ability to perform phlebotomy if required.
• Maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops, and affiliations.
• Participates in meetings, committees and department projects.
• Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Education

Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related laboratory science

Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science meeting ASCP criteria for MLT certification
