Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform comprehensive pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic duties in a high-accuracy clinical lab setting. You will verify orders, manage specimen collection and processing, run tests according to SOPs, and ensure timely, accurate reporting of results.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP eligibility or certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the ASCP, or equivalent certification examination.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) certification or eligible; if hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified (or equivalent certification) within one year of employment

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow to ensure correct orders, appropriate specimens, and proper processing/transport.
• Verifies orders and non-patient information according to protocol; handles unresolved orders and troubleshoots.
• Collects and processes specimens, verifies labeling, prioritizes processing, and aliquots specimens per SOPs.
• Performs analytical testing following SOPs and verifies test results for accuracy and interpretation.
• Performs post-analytical duties including reporting results, correcting erroneous reports, and ensuring patient confidentiality.
