Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Chicago to perform a broad range of clinical laboratory tests. You will handle pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic workflows, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP eligibility or certification.
• ASCP general MLS/MT certification or eligibility; categorical certifications preferred.
• Commitment to meeting regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre-analytic workflow to ensure correct orders and appropriate specimen collection.
• Verifies labeling, documentation, and suitability of specimens for testing.
• Performs analytical testing per SOPs and maintains instrument reliability.
• Maintains QC and inventory; troubleshoots issues and notifies senior staff as needed.
• Generates and validates test results; communicates findings to physicians.
• Participates in training, SOP development, and adherence to safety and compliance.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology / Medical Laboratory Science / Clinical Laboratory Science / Chemistry / Biology / Allied Health

ASCP Certification eligible / Certified (General MLS or MT)

ASCP categorical BB, C, H or M certification or eligible
