Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) for the St. Vincent Medical Center Medical Office Building 2. The MLS performs routine tests on blood and other specimens, ensuring accurate results and patient safety.

A BS in a CLIA-approved program is required, with MLS certification or eligibility preferred. An externship is preferred for applicants. The role emphasizes safe, efficient lab operations, adherence to procedures, and professional interaction with staff and patients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology or Biochemistry through a CLIA approved program (required)
• MLS Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (ASCP preferred) (required)
• Externship program completed (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient and accurate manner
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or recognizing abnormal results
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action
• Performs quality control for all testing and ensures results meet established ranges
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment including equipment checks and cleaning
• Other duties as assigned
