Job summary

Mercy Health’s St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo seeks a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) to perform routine tests on blood, tissues and other specimens, providing physicians with accurate results and maintaining patient safety.

Required is a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science (or related field) and MLS certification or eligibility; externship completed preferred. You will work in a fast-paced environment, uphold quality controls and collaborate with care teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field through a CLIA-approved program (required)
• MLS certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)
• Externship program completed (preferred)
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with procedures
• Determines acceptability of specimens by visual inspection or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and takes action according to protocols
• Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before releasing results
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by equipment checks and cleaning work area
• Other duties as assigned
