Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 40-hour medical interpreter training compliant with ethics code.
• Proficiency certificates in English and a target language.
• Familiarity with ethics, confidentiality, and national practice standards.
• Experience with scheduling or case-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between English and target language in medical, behavioral health, and community healthcare settings.
• Convey meaning, tone, and intent accurately while upholding HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
• Perform sight translation of patient forms and documents.
• Address linguistic or cultural barriers that affect understanding for clients and providers.
• Advise on issues affecting interpretation delivery and compliance with protocols.
• Assist clients in completing forms and preparing for medical appointments.
• Coordinate scheduling, rescheduling, or cancellations as needed.
• Represent the Interpreter Services Program professionally with external partners.
• Maintain current knowledge of medical terminology and interpreter ethics.
