Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 40-hour medical interpreter training per NCIIHC Code of Ethics.
• Proficiency in English and at least one target language (Dari or Pashto).
• Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between English and Dari or Pashto in medical settings.
• Convey full meaning, tone, and intent without adding or omitting information.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Perform sight translation of medical forms with clinician oversight.
• Identify language/cultural barriers and advocate when needed.
• Assist clients with forms and appointment logistics.
• Coordinate with healthcare providers and staff to ensure smooth service delivery.
• Provide feedback to improve scheduling and quality assurance processes.
• Represent the Interpreter Services Program professionally with external partners.
