Job summary

CWS NorCal seeks a professional medical interpreter to provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation across hospital and clinic settings. You will ensure accurate, confidential communication between English speakers and patients in healthcare environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 40-hour medical interpreter training per NCHE Code of Ethics; Bridging the Gap preferred.
• Valid certificate demonstrating English proficiency and at least one target language.
• Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, confidentiality and national standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between English and target language in medical settings.
• Convey full meaning and tone without altering information.
• Uphold HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
• Sight translate documents for forms to be signed.
• Identify and address linguistic or cultural barriers impacting understanding.
• Advocate when clients’ rights may be at risk per protocols.
• Assist clients with forms and histories before appointments.
• Confirm appointment details and readiness.
• Assist with scheduling or rescheduling of appointments.
• Communicate with providers and staff to pre-empt needs and clear barriers.
• Advise management on issues affecting interpretation delivery.
• Contribute feedback to improve scheduling and training processes.
• Represent the Interpreter Services Program professionally.
• Maintain high service quality and cultural sensitivity.
• Pursue ongoing education in medical terminology and ethics.
