Role Overview

Are you mechanically inclined with a knack for hands-on work? Do you enjoy a flexible schedule and working independently, but also have the support of a team? The Equipment Service Technician is a remote-based, customer-facing employee, primarily working inside hospitals. You will troubleshoot and repair medical equipment used in surgical procedures, and provide installation support on complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic units. This includes STERIS' main line of OEM equipment (Washers and Sterilizers), our largest equipment portfolio.

Ideal Candidate Background

Individuals with experience in HVAC repair, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, electrical, etc., are often successful.

Location Requirements

This is a remote, customer-facing position. Candidates must be based in New Jersey to support and service customers in this territory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of STERIS and competitor equipment.
2. Manage time effectively, prioritize customer and business needs, and complete scheduled tasks independently.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to escalate issues and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
4. Provide customers with information, pricing, and repair options, and build relationships to drive revenue opportunities.
5. Support various locations within the territory based on service agreements and customer needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years in a technical or mechanical role. Certifications or military experience may be considered.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background and physical requirements for vendor credentialing.
• Customer service and teamwork experience.
• Effective communication skills.
• Basic computer skills (Windows, email, mobile apps, data entry).
• Flexible schedule, including potential overnight, early, or late hours.
• Ability to meet hospital or customer credentialing requirements.

Compensation

Pay range: $47,750 - $66,937.50, plus commission. Pay rates depend on experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
