Role Overview

Are you mechanically inclined with a knack for hands-on work? Do you enjoy a flexible schedule and working independently, but also have the support of a team? The Equipment Service Technician is a remote-based, customer-facing role, primarily working inside hospitals. You will troubleshoot and repair medical equipment used in surgical procedures, as well as support installation of complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic units. This includes STERIS's main OEM equipment portfolio like washers and sterilizers.

Preferred Background

Individuals with experience in HVAC repair, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chiller systems, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, electrical work, etc., are often successful.

Location

This is a remote, customer-facing position. Candidates must be based in New Jersey to support and service customers within this territory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of STERIS and competitor equipment.
2. Manage time effectively to prioritize customer and business needs, completing PMs, service calls, warranty work, installations, and upgrades.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to escalate issues and use technology platforms for compliance and troubleshooting documentation.
4. Provide customers with information, pricing, and repair options, and learn to identify sales opportunities.
5. Support various locations within the territory based on customer needs and service agreements.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant work experience, including 2 years in a technical or mechanical role. Certifications or military experience may be considered.
2. Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background and physical assessments for credentialing.
3. Customer service and team engagement experience.
4. Effective communication skills.
5. Basic computer skills (MS Windows, email, apps, data entry).
6. Flexibility for schedules including overnight, early/late hours.
7. Compliance with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.

Compensation

Pay range: $47,750 - $66,937.50, plus potential commissions. Rates depend on experience, education, certifications, and location.
