Job summary

Praesum Healthcare is seeking a Medical Collections Specialist to perform payment follow-up and collection activities on patient accounts. You will call patients directly to collect on medical bills and maintain accurate, timely data across systems.

The role requires 2–3 years in medical collections, strong analytical skills, and knowledge of medical terminology and coding. Full-time schedule with standard business hours and typical benefits available.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • AA degree or vocational training preferred in a related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in medical collections, dealing with patients and insurers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience.
  • Analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Aggressively seek final resolution on all denied medical claims.
  • Provide ongoing collection activity on appeals until payer responds.
  • Review contracts and identify billing or coding issues; request re-bills or corrected bills.
  • Handle inquiries from insurance providers requesting medical records or letters of medical necessity.
  • Research and respond to documentation requests from insurance carriers promptly.
  • Contact insurance carriers to collect on zero paid account balances.
  • Document all activities and communications with insurance companies in the system.
  • Review EOBs and identify payer-specific billing requirements.

Medical Collections Specialist

Praesum Healthcare provides administrative services for healthcare providers across the Northeast, mid‑Atlantic, and Southeast regions. The Medical Collections Specialist is responsible for performing payment follow‑up and collection activities on patient accounts, calling patients directly to collect on medical bills, and maintaining accurate, timely data.

  • Aggressively seek final resolution on all denied medical claims.
  • Provide ongoing appropriate collection activity on appeals until the payer has responded.
  • Review contracts and identify billing or coding issues; request re‑bills, secondary billing, or corrected bills as needed.
  • Resolve any incoming phone inquiries from insurance providers requesting medical records and/or letters of medical necessity.
  • Research, compile, and respond to documentation requests from insurance carriers in a timely basis.
  • Contact insurance carriers to collect on zero paid account balances.
  • Document all activities, contacts, and communications with insurance companies in the system.
  • Review EOBs and identify payer‑specific billing requirements.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • AA Degree or vocational training preferred in a related field.
  • Minimum 2‑3 years of experience in a medical collection role, communicating with both patients and insurance companies.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • 1‑2 years of customer service experience.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding.
Schedule

Full‑time: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
